This year’s lineup includes a new addition for your enjoyment—an S
gauge vintage American Flyer layout. You’ll see a mix of four favorites
from the previous years’ tours also, as well as the opportunity to
again enjoy the Sioux Valley Model Engineers Society club layout
located at the Lyons Fairgrounds.
Rail passes (admission tickets) along with directions and maps for the
self-directed tours will be available at Hobbytown USA.
Todd Marks’ S gauge
American Flyer layout. One of three Harrisburg layouts this
year, this collection includes over 100 locomotives and freight cars,
mostly from the 1950s. The theme is rural America freight trains, and
the Chicago and North Western, Great Northern, and Illinois Central are
prominently represented. Enjoy a dozen operating accessories—they’re
guaranteed to bring back memories of 1950s American Flyer.
Alan Saatkamp’s Wisconsin
Dakota HO scale layout. This revamped layout returns to the tour
with a modified combination theme—no longer just the DM & E but
also the ICE as well as the Wisconsin and Southern at Janesville,
Wisconsin. A couple sound unit equipped SD 40-2s provide a new
dimension for your enjoyment in Harrisburg.
Terry Anderson’s DM &
E (Darla, Mark, and Emma) HO scale layout. The second of two DM
& E layouts in Harrisburg also returns to the tour, modeling a
Midwestern theme heavy on grain hauling. Additional industries and
track have been added since 2006, allowing BNSF and Illinois Central
road power more room to roam on this highly detailed combination theme
layout.
Mike Kaufman’s HO scale
Burlington Northern Sante Fe Marshall Subdivision. Mike’s work
crew remain busy every weekend, upgrading and adding more features to
this full basement sized layout in Garretson. It features modern day
freight car operations based on the prototype which operates in that
city to Willmar, Minnesota. There’s lots of detail and realistic
modeling of industries along the way, including rock loading at Granite
Falls, the corn syrup plant and other industries at Marshall,
industries at Pipestone and the yard and other trackage at Garretson.
Gary Johnson has not one
but two layouts running for our show. His Libertyville and
Harrisburg (L & H) N gauge layout (shown above) features hand-made
trestles and outstanding scenery. Milwaukee Road, CB & Q, and BNSF
rolling stock are featured in a 14 x 25’ area. The other half of the
train room includes an HO layout under construction. Youngsters will be
sure to recognize Thomas the Train here.
Sioux Valley Model Engineers Society club layout at W.H. Lyons
Fairgrounds. This HO scale layout fills nearly the entire building and
operates multiple trains in both directions on two levels. There’s lots
of detail to delight and entertain the viewer--a regional favorite for
years.
